FAQ

Does insurance cover braces and artificial limbs?

Yes, many insurance companies will reimburse the cost of orthotic and prosthetic devices—call your provider to determine coverage. A veterinarian prescription or referral is often required for reimbursement.

Can my pet’s brace or artificial limb get wet?

Your pet’s device is designed to withstand wet weather conditions, swimming, and treadmill therapy. The inside of your pet’s device is lined with soft closed-celled foam that does not absorb water, however, we recommend to towel off your pet’s device when possible. You can find more information on how to care for your pet’s device in our wear and care instruction guides.

Why is a cast needed to fabricate a custom brace—why can’t measurements be used?

A cast provides us with an exact duplicate of your pet’s limb or affected body part so that we can precisely fabricate their device. Taking measurements approximates the affected limb or body part, leaving you with a device that’s not so great.

What is an orthosis or a prosthesis?

An orthosis (brace) is an externally applied device that supports body parts for healing, prevents or corrects deformities, or reduces pain. A prosthesis is an artificial device that replaces missing parts such as a leg.

What materials will be used to fabricate my pet’s device?

We use the highest grade materials available to make your pet’s device—these are the same materials used in the orthotic and prosthetic fields for humans. With proper care, your pet’s device will last many years. Many parts such as straps, tread, and joints are modular and can be easily replaced if necessary.

Can you give me a general idea of the process from beginning to end?

1) Consult with your veterinarian or PawOpedic to determine if a brace or prosthesis is appropriate for your pet. 2) PawOpedic or your veterinarian will take a fiberglass impression (cast) of your pet's affected body part. 3) We will then use the cast to create a custom device that will only fit your pet 4) Either PawOpedic or your veterinarian will fit the device and review proper donning, use, care, and cleaning 5) PawOpedic is always available via FaceTime, Zoom, phone, and email if you need help or have questions.

Once you have received my pet’s cast, how long will it take before we receive the device?

Fabrication times are generally within 5-10 days.

What is your Refund Policy?

All devices are custom-made to your pet and, therefore refunds are not allowed.
